Top 10 Most Expensive Suburbs

Hello and welcome to this week’s special edition of our Weekly Property Pulse. This week we take a look at Australia’s top 10 most expensive suburbs for houses. The list is based on median value for suburbs that have had at least 100 AVM observations and 10 sales over the past year.

1. Point Piper, Woollahra, Sydney, NSW

Median value: $5,749,815

The harbour side suburb of Point Piper is located six kilometres east of the Sydney CBD. Point Piper is a small suburb with only eleven streets however locals have access to amenities in the neighbouring suburbs of Rose Bay and Double Bay.

2. Darling Point, Woollahra, Sydney, NSW

Median value: $4,841,996

Darling Point is a harbour side suburb located four kilometres east of the Sydney CBD. According to 2011 Census data, households in Darling Point are likely to be repaying over $4000 per month on mortgage repayments.

3. Vaucluse, Woollahra, Sydney, NSW

Median value: $3,769,383

Vaucluse is located eight kilometres north-east of the Sydney CBD. The suburb of Vaucluse is mainly residential and offers views across the harbour to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

4. Peppermint Grove, Peppermint Grove, Perth, WA

Median value: $3,726,975

Peppermint Grove is situated on the north bank of the Swan River at Freshwater Bay. Households in Peppermint Grove are primarily couples with children and are likely to be repaying over $4000 per month on mortgage repayments according to the 2011 Census data.

5. Bellevue Hill, Woollahra, Sydney, NSW

Median value: $3,591,951

Bellevue Hill is located five kilometres east of the Sydney CBD. According to Census data, 63.2 per cent of homes in Bellevue Hill were owner occupied.

The harbour side suburb of Lavender Bay is located three kilometres north of the Sydney CBD. The suburb looks out to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney CBD.

Linley Point is located 10 kilometres north-west of the Sydney CBD, offering views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney CBD. According to Census data, 89.6 per cent of the homes in Linley Point were owner-occupied in 2011.

8. Tamarama, Waverley, Sydney, NSW

Median value: $3,048,681

The beachside suburb of Tamarama is located seven kilometres east of the Sydney CBD, and one kilometres south of Bondi Beach. The residential suburb is popular for swimming and surfing.

9. Toorak, Stonnington, Melbourne, VIC

Median value: $2,938,058

Toorak is located five kilometres south-east of the Melbourne CBD. According to the 2011 Census, households in Toorak are primarily childless couples and are likely to be repaying over $4000 per month on mortgage repayments.

10. Dover Heights, Waverley, Sydney, NSW

Median value: $2,908,842

Dover Heights is a coastal suburb located nine kilometres east of the CBD. Neighbouring suburbs include North Bondi and Rose Bay. Views of the Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge can be seen from parts of Dover Heights.
